If we're going to go ahead and release these folks back into regular society why not just fit them with a tracker for the rest of their lives? It's a lot like tagging an animal and tracking it in the forest right? That's basically what the parole system "tries" to do, track these people out in the real world, but how good a job can they do when it's like thousands of parolees to a single parole officers who is overworked and underpaid? Take all the guesswork out of it, tag them, track them, make sure they stay within a certain zone, and if they don't, bammo, bring them back in. Don't make it some sort of external tracker either, go ahead and pin these bastards like you'd track a dog, something under the skin, inside of a bone, attached to an organ, under the rib cage, whatever...

The folks who would say no to this kind of activity would probably be surprised at the amount of offenders of non-sexual nature that live within miles of their homes. Since we don't really track these folks, who knows right? Make it a part of the parole and make these folks sign their "rights" away. They're technically being "tracked" by parole officers now, why not just make it more certain?!?

Today, the pair pled guilty to felony child abuse and were sentenced to probation and community service. (Story)

Probation and community service? You have to be kidding me? Is that the best that Judge Browder Willis could do? Somehow I doubt it.

A family court judge in New York has told a woman that she is no longer supposed to have children. The woman has had seven children by seven different men. Every child has been placed into foster care and the last three children were born addicted to cocaine.

Considering the circumstances, I don't think that the judge went far enough. Not that she could have, but I think this woman should be permanently sterilized. I can't imagine the hell that her children have gone through. Being "raised" by a cocaine addicted mother who has been in and out of court for child neglect for the last five years.

The New York Civil Liberties Union is fighting the ruling saying that the mother has the right to procreate. Well, that's true, but come on... If for one second you think that it is a good idea for this woman to have another child, you need to have your head examined. This woman is a drain on the rest of the world and needs to be stopped. If she wants to screw up her own life, that is fine, but don't let her mess up the lives of kids that have nothing to do with it.

This whole situation brings back something that I have always thought. We should make people get a license to breed. We have to be licensed to do everything else, why not making babies? I know, it is difficult to enforce. Hell, almost impossible. And in this case probably wouldn't have changed anything. This woman cares nothing for her children, let alone the law.

I hope that we see more of this type of ruling in the future and that the ACLU falls flat on their faces trying to appeal the rulings.

On most days, I am the first person to get to work. When I get here, the bathrooms are clean. The floors are mopped. The toilets are scrubbed.

By 9:00AM, the floors are sticky and people have pissed all over the toilets.

I don't get it.. What is wrong with you people? Do you piss all over the floor at home? If you do, remind me never to come to your house. I have never worked anywhere where the bathrooms are this bad.

It really grosses me out... I hate having my shoes stick to the floor.

Politicians have been trying to force their moral code on the common citizen for a long time and it is still happening today. One of the biggest failures in the attempt to legislate morality was prohibition. Prohibition was undertaken by an outspoken minority that pushed and lobbied the government about the evils of alcohol and how people who used it were bound to be degenerates. The government eventually acted and in 1920 a constitutional amendment was passed saying that the use and production of alcohol was illegal. After a short 13 years, the politicians took a look at it all and decided that there was no way to effectively enforce the law, so the amendment was repealed.

To me, this sounds a lot like what we are going through now... We have politicians wanting to amend the constitution to "protect the sanctity of marriage." Come on, guys... Do you really think that two gay men or two lesbian women who want to say they are married lowers the value of my marriage? Umm.. .no. It doesn't affect me at all. You are merely trying to push your morality off on other because the thought of two people of the same sex in a relationship makes your sphincter pucker.

Face facts, legislating morality is something that will never work. Morals change over time. You can create legislation that protects people from dangerous activities and from infringing on other people's rights, but not morality.

I think the main thing is that while I said I was going to remain impartial during the whole thing, I figured out pretty quickly that there is one candidate that I really don't like. It isn't that I can't get behind his policies... I just can't stand him.

One thing that I still believe today is that I don't think the president has very little to do with how the country actually progresses. The president cannot create jobs. The president cannot increase consumer and corporate spending or decrease inflation.

The president is a figurehead. It is his job to collect the smartest bunch of people to help him make the decisions. That is what made Reagan a good president.

The other thing that I have realized in the past couple of weeks is that because I live in a small state, my vote really doesn't count. I don't live in a swing state, so the candidates don't even bother to visit.

The last thing... I am so glad that after tomorrow, we will have no more commercials! Life will be so nice.

Interestingly enough, both candidates have been using this question. At least in limited fashion. Neither of them is dumb enough to to come out and say it directly, but they are hinting at it. Kerry has had some of his flunkies ask the question. Bush was asked the question in an interview and said that at least 50% of the people in the United States would say yes.

Hey candidates... Is anyone really better off? We have had a lot of crap happen in the last 4 years. September 11. Skyrocketing oil prices. War in Afghanistan. War in Iraq. There are a couple of those that are questionable as to their reasoning, but the question still remains...

Are you better off today than you were four years ago? Probably not, but would we have been in a different boat if someone else had been in office? Probably not.

First candidate to actually ask that question is going to lose some serious points. Just for being stupid.

Both Bush and Kerry are campaigning on the issue of jobs. They are both spending a lot of time in the "Rust Belt" section of the United States: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio and Pennsylvania. Of these, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania are considered "swing states". More on that topic in a minute.

They are both going into that section of the country and talking about how they are the candidate that is going to foster more job growth and it is going to help them. The people in the Rust Belt. Here is the problem with that argument... I don't believe it. Not at all. In fact, I think that it is nothing more that hot air.

Here is why... The Rust Belt states have been in decline for the last 40 years. The main problem is that the steel industry can't compete with steel manufacturing from other countries. One person, whether they are a Democrat or a Republican is not going to be able to help them out. But, if they are able to convince them that they are, then there are three of the coveted swing states and that candidate will be that much closer to the White House.

At this point, the whole job creation argument is a fighting point that is going to win the person with the most convincing answer a couple of swing states. It doesn't really affect me personally, so at this point, neither candidate has gained any additional credibility.

The election, that is...

Right now, I am an undecided voter. If the elections were held today, I would probably avoid voting. I don't completely agree with either candidate. Each of them has some things that I agree with, but I just don't feel like I can get behind either one.

So, here is what I am going to do. Each day, I am going to try to find one topic that I can consider. Some of them will be controversial, some of them will probably be stupid. At the end of it all, I will be an informed voter. I may still be undecided, but at least I will be able to tell you why.

That being said, I have to relate something that happened to me this past weekend. We took a road trip to Saint Louis for a mini vacation. We were taking Noah to a Wiggle concert on Tuesday, so we figured that we would spend Sunday and Monday just doing some sightseeing.

As we were getting into downtown Saint Louis, there was a very loud thump. I thought we had blown a tire, but I didn't notice anything wrong with the steering. I looked in the rearview mirror and saw a chunk of concrete rolling down the intersate.

I pulled over as quickly as I could and it was at that point that I saw that there were six or eight kids standing on the overpass that we had just passed under. I realized that the chunk of concrete that hit the car was probably thrown by these kids. I grabbed my cell phone and called 911. At the same time, I jumped out of the car so I could try to get a look at these kids. It was at this point that they started running.

I was explaining what was going on to the 911 operator. She was trying to figure out where we were. Since we were past the exit on the eastbound side of the interstate, I was looking back at the exit on the westbound side. I explained that the only sign that I could see was exit 39C. She was hung up on the fact that there is no exit 39C on the eastbound side. I kept telling her that I understood that and that I had no idea what the name of the street was.

Once we figured that out, she asked a few more questions. I explained that we had gotten hit by a chunk of concrete that was thrown off the overpass by a bunch of kids. I could still see the kids running down the street at this point. She asked me if anyone was hurt or if they had broken any windows. I told her that the windows were intact and that no one was hurt. Her next question completely floored me. She asked me what I wanted them to do.

Ummm, lets see... Why don't you get a cop down here to try to catch these little bastards who hit my car.

I told her that I wanted to file a report, but that I really wanted to have someone try to catch up with these kids. At this point, I could still see them.

She asked me if I could make a positive identification of the kids. I couldn't. It took me about a quarter of a mile to get stopped, so there was no way I could point out these kids with 100% certainty, other than the fact that I could still see them running down the street.

She then asked me what they were wearing. They were all wearing jeans and white t-shirts. When I told her this, she informed me that "All juveniles in Saint Louis wear jeans and white t-shirts."

I asked her if she was going to send an officer to try to speak with these kids and she told me that she wasn't. What gives her the right do decide which calls she is going to dispatch and which one she isn't? I really think that they would want to talk to these kids, but I guess not. Plus, I don't know if you have ever been to Saint Louis, but there are cops everywhere. I am sure that she could have had someone there within 60 seconds of when I first called if she had acted on it properly.

Then she asked me again what I wanted to do. I said that since she wasn't going to do anything about the kids, that I wanted to file a report. She informed me that, since I was still parked on the interstate, that she would have to send two cop cars out to take a report and she didn't want to do that. So, if I'm not bleeding, it isn't convenient for you to send someone out to investigate?

I was furious at this point. Not only was I being completely blown off by this inept 911 operator, but it was sinking in that I could have died if was going any slower than I was. You see, I had just seen where the rock had hit the car... The initial impact was about 4 inches back from the front windshield on the driver's side. Had I been going just slightly slower, it would have come through the windshield and hit me. I would have become a statistic... Just another sad story.

At this point, the operator told me that I should just go to my hotel and call back and they would get a report. I was floored, but I went ahead and did it.

The topper to the whole event was when I called back. I figured that the chances that I actually spoke to the same person again was slim when I called in, especially since I was calling the non-emergency number the second time around. As luck would have it, no. I got the same person. She told me that since I could not make a positive identification and that there was no injuries, she wasn't going to send out an officer and that they would take the report over the phone.

To protect and serve? Not in Saint Louis.
