Liberal Guilt?
Okay, so this is a combination of two things I've heard in the last two days. I was watching Simpsons, now that the little one loves them, I get to watch too :-) Marge was taking the whole "Junior Braves" troupe to clean up a forest, and to get them fired up, she was shouting "What are we gonna do?" and they replied "Clean up the forest" and then "Why are we doing it?" and the boys replied in a wonderful sendup of our society "Liberal Guilt!". It was great, in a simple little cartoon, Matt Groening can employ those loveable rapscallions to rake the media and stupid people across the coals with humor. I got a snort out of it, the little one laughed because I did, and a good time was had by all.
So today, my wife comes to work to take me out to lunch and tells me a story about how she went to the Half-Price Book Store (great store, you can find some good books for real cheap) and the lady behind her (someone with the full-on hippy garb, ankle length dress, sandals, probably had a leather headband somewhere with a poppy in it) was expounding on the fact that she loved the store, thought it was great that people "recycle" books this way and that we save paper and don't kill as many trees, etc...and then went and jumped in her SHINY NEW CHEVY TAHOE!!!!
Huh?
Liberal Guilt at its finest...I'm sure she recycles, buys the overpriced "organic" veggies from Whole Foods and drinks Soy milk....and burns the shit out of a few hundred dollars worth of gas trying to get to all of these out of the way stores just so she can feel better about the environment. Oh, what bliss to be misguided and hypocritical.

you know, the fact that the woman you are speaking of is a liberal has nary a thing to do with her level of stupidity. yes, she was a hypocrite and yes if she's so darned interested in saving the planet then she shouldn't drive a gas guzzling, extra emission making monster vehicle. but not ALL liberals are this way, and the whole 'liberal guilt' thing is pretty asinine. people who are liberal aren't that way simply from some misguided guilt about anything. i don't automatically assume that all conservatives are bible-thumping zealots who won't stop until the US has become a theocracy and all homosexuals and foreigners deported, so why make generalizations?
idiots and hypocrites can be found in ALL walks of life, regardless of religious beliefs or political leanings. the constant labelling and assumptions made by both sides of the political spectrum does nothing but furthur divide us.

i just caught that you had put the word organic in quotes. that really makes me laugh especially since for something to be called organic it must be grown according to very strict laws and guidelines or it cannot be called organic. so it's not just some scam to make people pay more for their fruits or veggies, heh. it's food, grown without toxic chemicals that people who buy organic produce don't want to put in their or their childrens bodies. sure, some of them probably also only buy organic foods because they want to reduce their contamination of the world as well as their bodies, and sure we are all exposed to the toxicity of the world most of the time, it's neigh unto impossible to avoid it. but some people like that they can control at least some of the toxins that are put into their bodies.
