Recall History

So far, I have managed to keep my mouth closed about the whole recall situation in California. The time has come, though, for me to say a few things.

First of all, I don't think that the recall is necessarily a bad thing. Some people are calling this an abuse of the ability to perform a recall election. I don't really see this as a fact. Rather, I see that there are a lot of people out there that have lost faith in the current governer and that is what a recall is all about.

Now, on to the real meat of my commentary. All of the sudden, all sorts of people are coming out of the woodwork to say that Arnold Schartzenegger has done one thing or another that should keep him from being governer. Some of them are women saying that they were groped by him on various movie sets throughout the last 20 years. I don't know if he did this or not. I do find the timing of all of it pretty interesting, though. Most of this has come to light less than a week before people start voting. Kinda interesting, don't you think?

The other big one that has been splashed all over the media in the last couple of days was some comments that he supposedly made two decades ago about Adolph Hitler. While I have not seen the full transcript of what was said, I have heard that the primary things that were mentioned were in regards to Hitler's speaking ability. Before I get too far in to this, I want to make one point completely clear. I think Hitler was a raving madman and pretty much everything he did was and is intolerable. That being said, he was able to hold entire countries in awe and was able to convince a great number of people to do things that they probably wouldn't have come up with on their own. He was able to incite the emotions of entire countries. He was a madman, but he showed himself to be a very powerful speaker and strong leader. He may have lead with lies and deceit, but people believed it. He was able to pull the wool over millions of people's eyes. Hell, even Time Magazine named him man of they year in 1939.

Taken out of context, any comment can be made to mean anything. Someone reading this could twist the words in such a way that I come off as some sort of Neo Nazi Hitler lover. While it isn't the case, I guess it makes good politics in California.

"By means of shrewd lies, unremittingly repeated, it is possible to make people believe that heaven is hell -- and hell heaven. The greater the lie, the more readily it will be believed." -Adolph Hitler, Mein Kampf
